Subscription costs are psychologically underestimated because they are paid in small, spread-out amounts. This tool converts them all to an annual total so you can see the real number.
How it's worked out
- Each monthly subscription is added as it is. A yearly one is divided by 12 first.
- Your yearly total is the monthly total times 12.
- Your cost a day is the yearly total divided by 365.
Say you pay $9.99 and $15.49 a month, and $120 a year for a third. That is $9.99 + $15.49 + $10.00 = $35.48 a month. Over a year it comes to $425.76, or about $1.17 a day.

A subscription billed once a year is that yearly amount divided by 12 when you compare it with a monthly one.
Common mistakes
- Only looking at the monthly price. The yearly total is what you are really spending.
- Letting a free trial turn into a paid plan. Set a reminder to cancel before it ends.
- Keeping something you don't use because it is cheap. Several cheap ones add up.
- Missing the yearly renewal. Check the dates and cancel before the charge, not after.
Questions
What counts as a subscription?
Streaming services, software tools, cloud storage, news sites, gym memberships, food boxes, apps, music, games, productivity suites. If you pay a recurring fee for it, it counts.
What about free trials?
They are not free. They convert to paid subscriptions automatically. If you cannot name the exact date your trial ends, add it to the list now.
Should I include annual subscriptions I pay as a lump sum?
Yes. Switch the billing toggle to annual and enter the total you pay. The tool will calculate the monthly equivalent so everything is comparable, and include the full amount in the annual total.
